While this is no big deal on the surface I think it helps improve a club that had a very weak Backup at the QB position. Although Tolliver is not Favre he does bring experience which often pays off to a degree in a backing roll.

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Billy Joe Tolliver, a journeyman quarterback cut by Chicago last month, signed with the Green Bay Packers as a backup for Brett Favre.

The team on Monday also released rookie quarterback Jonathan Beasley of Kansas State, who took part in two minicamps, spokesman Lee Remmel said Tuesday.

This will be the sixth NFL team for the 35-year-old Tolliver. He spent the last three seasons in New Orleans after playing with San Diego, Atlanta, Houston and Kansas City.

He has a 15-32 record as a starter and will compete with Doug Pederson for the backup quarterback job. Former backup Matt Hasselbeck was traded to Seattle.

Henry Burris, who played the last four years in the Canadian Football League, is the fourth quarterback on the roster.
