Suggestion 1: Regardless of “uninstall” option, “control-alt-delete” fail-safe, it is still good to simply reformat and reinstall the hard drive once every so often (say, 2 years) just to get that peppiness in response back into your PC;

Suggestion 2: Try www.mcafee.com online service for Windows debugging, anti-virus and firewall utilities. They are worth the USD 29.95 annual subscription, especially if you are on broadband of any kind;

Suggestion 3: Now that you see the value of “Reset” to original state, consider, once again …

I cannot help from feeling, from what you wrote here and from my own experience, that the productivity hype over the past years was actually cheering on the folks who spent time messing up and fixing their own computers and to use the PC for Unreal Tournaments.
