dweeb - go back in time and we are all immigrants - including those so-called "native Americans" who came to North America via the land bridge spanning Siberia and Alaska. If you haven't noticed though, the planet has changed just a tad over the past few thousands of years. The US does have an energy crisis, a healthcare crisis, and an environmental crisis encompassing the disappearance of land to urban and suburban sprawl, and water resources. A few years back, Canada's borders were more open than they are now, and Vancouver became flooded with aliens from China. Chinese Canadians who were in Canada legally got so fed up with the flood that now Canada has changed its policy - it is now more restrictive. The way for Mexico to solve its problems is not to export its entire lower economic class of people to the US. Essentially, Bush's proposal gives the Mexican gov't the opportunity to deport a big drain on its economy. Does that mean that we have to accept it? If Bush and Daschle are successful, you will see increasing crime, including crimes against property and person, increasing tension among people of different nationalities, and increasing gun ownership.
