i still think you overestimate 600 dollars---it will be a one month blip,imo.The key to that article is our economy is so consumer dependent to the extreme that EVEN a slight downturn in consumer spending will cause damage.
We have an economy that demands spending on a "there is no tomorrow" basis.
The consumer have maxed out their mortgages and their credit cards,and historically when savings become negative it is a signal to consumer exhaustion and a trend reversal.
But it will take but a modest amount of consumer economizing to be a can of molasses into the engine of our economy.
Also,their is a definite pattern that those losing and getting new jobs,are working for less pay,this is a major downside to the rehired.
And again i feel you may be surprised at how much of that tax rebate is ALREADY spent.
If this rebate was coming at a time that consumer debt was not at major and dangerous highs,i would side with you more,but that is not the case.Max
