Andreas RE: Marketshare

Intel says processor shipments went up 6%. AMD's increased from about 7.3M to about 7.7M, ~5.5%. So looks like Intel's share increased slightly. Well, there are also VIA and Transmetta, but they're so small I consider them insignificant. Also, I believe the Mercury numbers in the News.com article were quoted as preliminary numbers.

After hearing that CC, Plain and simple, I see Intel dominating AMD for the rest of the year at a minimum. Heck, it can easily last at least one year until AMD can get a new core out. And even then AMD has to hit 3GHz at a minimum to be competitive like they were with the Athlon. I think AMD will have an extremely hard time making money in Q4 and a Q3 loss is easily guaranteed. The only real question in my mind is how low will AMD stock go as a result.
