Gary, you illegally tapping your campaign war chest to pay for your pathetic P.R. war?

The lizard says "talk to my lawyers". Lawyers say "talk to our P.R. expert". P.R.Expert says "I duno."


Rep. Gary Condit's representatives are stonewalling
questions about a new issue regarding his
connection with missing intern Chandra Levy: how
he is paying mushrooming bills for legal experts and
spin doctors working on his behalf.

Mike Lynch, Condit's chief of staff, has declined to
answer The Chronicle's repeated inquiries about
whether Condit's public relations push is being paid
by his campaign funds. Last week, he referred calls
to Condit's two attorneys, Abbe Lowell of
Washington, D.C., and Joseph Cotchett of
Burlingame.

Both lawyers' offices referred the questions to
Marina Ein, the Washington, D.C.-based public
relations consultant now representing Condit.
Yesterday, Ein said she had no idea whether
campaign funds would be used to pay her bill or
that of the attorneys -- or even how it would be
paid.
