AURORA, IL (June 17, 1997) Westell (NASDAQ: WSTL) today announced participation at TechNet `97, the Armed Forces Communications Engineering Association's (AFCEA) international exhibition of scientific progress in the communications and electronics industries. TechNet `97 will run June 17th through June 19th at the Washington, D.C., Convention Center. Westell, located in booth #1663 (main exhibit hall section C), will conduct product demonstrations featuring the FlexCap2 Rate Adaptive Digital Subscriber Line (RADSL) System, Westell's T1 HDSL System, the Twinline 2000 Single-Pair Gain Carrier System and the Quadjack Fiber Transport System.
Westell has recently signed a one year agreement with GTE Government Services (extendible by agreement of both parties) to be their exclusive supplier of xDSL systems including FlexCap ADSL, FlexCap2 RADSL and SuperVision DSLAM under the Long Term Life Cycle Support (LTLCS) program, contract # DAA B07-92-D-E026. GTE's LTLCS contract to provide long term life cycle support to the federal government is a five-year $200 million dollar Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract open to all Department of Defense (DoD) locations worldwide. Additional activity by Westell in the government arena includes a listing on Part 58 of the GSA schedule contract # GS35F-1213D, valid through September 2000.
During TechNet `97 the US Air Force Communications Agency (Scott Air Force Base, Illinois) and their equipment testing division, the Technology Interoperability Facility (AFCEA-TNAC), will be linking their booths (#3521 and #3634 respectively) with Westell's FlexCap2 equipment to demonstrate the point-to-point transmission of digitized video.
The FlexCap2 RADSL System gives network service providers the ability to offer high-speed data services for Internet access, remote LAN extension and telecommuting over their existing copper access network. FlexCap2 operates at rates from 640 kbps to 2.24 Mbps downstream and 272 kbps to 1.088 Mbps upstream and features rate adaptive capabilities that adjust for the highest possible speed based on copper line length and quality.
Westell's T1 HDSL system provides full duplex 1.544 Mbps over two wire pairs. Repeaterless distances up to 12 KF over 24 gw facilities can be achieved. With the available mid span repeater, ranges up to 24 KF are possible.
The Twinline 2000 Single-Pair Gain Carrier System multiplexes two telephone lines over a single non-loaded cable pair providing an extra telephone service line with a pair gain device that is compatible with HDSL, ADSL and ISDN.
The Westell QuadJack Fiber Optic Transport System is a compact, 400 Mechanics based, system that provides economical transport for up to four DS1 signals. A built-in DS1 Network Interface Unit (NIU) is included for each DS1 circuit, eliminating the need for separate NIUs at the customer end for maintenance loopback testing.
TechNet '97 will include over 500 companies demonstrating their technologies to an audience comprised of government engineers, communications specialists and technology buyers.
