Add up every expense that's incurred from owning them..., (some are hard to find) and then take a look at the stock turnover rate and tax issues within the fund.., and then look at your own tax exposure if sold...! Not to forget manager changes..., you'll find... Most of the Time..., it all adds up to a "Mistake."

One's better off working the Index markets. Also with the new vehicles coming out by the exchanges to trade blocks of stocks, I'd stay away from MF's if possible. Fund Families make money by attracting Assets and taking your money through expenses.

As for the buy and hold strategy..., all you have to do is look at Magellan. I'm in the John Boggle Camp.
