Even the bottom quartile of fund managers here are beating the index here in the last couple of years according to the report on the mutual fund industry in todays Australian Financial Review. Coloniual First State's stock turnover is very low and the capital gains tax component of the distributions is small it's about balanced by the franking credits (we get tax credits here for the corporation tax). Their main Aussie equity funds have been outstripping the index since inception back in 1989. Here are the 1 and 3-year and 5 year performances from today's report: 1 3 5 Future Leaders: 16.14% 36.77% 25.42% Developing Companies: 21.25% 43.28% n/a Geared Share Fund: 26.95% 33.74% n/a Global Resources Fund:33.36% 22.93% n/a Seems to me that these are worth having?
