Re: "Left wing ideology is a failed enterprise that can't stand on its own."
If that's so, then why did the other guy get more votes on Nov. 8?
In fact Flapster, the results of Nov. 8th confirm in a way the failure, or at least the danger of left wing ideology. Al Gore's central theme of his campaign was "I'll fight for you". The flip side of this of course is "I'm coming to GET you". (As a small businessman I was horrified by Gore's campaign.)
This theme has great appeal to "the masses" and hence your Nov. 8th result. Fortuantely, the Constitution contemplated the adverse effect of such mob rule and implemented the Electorial College system to prevent the "have not" masses from pilfering the "haves". The reason is simple, making everyone even, makes everyone mediocre.
................................................. Those who ignore history are bound to repeat it: The Fall Of A Republic When the thirteen colonies were still a part of England, Professor Alexander Tyler wrote about the fall of the Athenian republic over two thousand years previous to that time:
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, (Al Gore) with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship.
The average age of the world's great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back to bondage.
