Almost always, when someone premises something on "current trends continuing", he is about to make a fool of himself. Given the American people, I think that we have reached a point where there will be arguments on the margins about how far we should follow the lead of Europe. But look what has happened in Europe itself. The socialist parties have all become deradicalized, and various welfare schemes are being dismantled or altered........
