The "trend" in question can be traced back to the time of Lincoln. Seeing at least 100 "trends" that all tend to accelerate the follies, I don't think I'm taking a very big risk projecting that the oppression will continue to worsen over the next 50 years... barring a stunning outside event (such as massive world-wide plague far worse than AIDs, another American Revolution, asteroid impact, or even an alien race contacting Earth).
