Your right about that, the problem was I had no idea what all reinstalling the operating system had involved. I had never done it and I was to the understanding that you could save most of your stuff. Wrong I did save lots of data but bookmarks and e-mails.....forget it. I think you are right about the scanner staying on all the time. I was reading where one scanner (I forget the brand name) actually told you to be sure and unplug your scanner each day. When asked why they didn't simply put an off button on it they replied they wanted to keep the cost down. dawg
