Some comments from IBM's quarterly release transcript:
========
See: investor.ibm.com
========
page 3: "Disk storage was up 35% -- driven by a 55% growth in Shark"
page 10: "Shark's gross profit margin improved -- quite a contrast to our
largest competitor" (EMC)
page 17: "Our disk subsystem revenue grew 35% year-to-year. These gains
were driven by strong competitive wins by our Shark systems which grew 55%."
========

Both Hitachi and IBM are claiming increasing revenue and market share
in high-end storage. I suspect IBM's comment on gross margin improvement
may be moot since they may well have had crappy margins to begin with.

Anyone have a clue as to what Hitachi and IBM maintain for margins
in their storage systems? It would seem EMC may have to drop to their
level, all other things being equal (features, performance etc.) to
keep business.
