What I cannot understand is how a company like RFMD can still be talking up GPRS when all we read about from the manufacturers (NOK specifically) is delays in getting the phones out. What is the truth here?

Well....we will know in a couple of hours, but it is interesting to note that the source that the WitSoundview analyst used to conclude that Nokia's GPRS handsets will be late was RFMD. Their management was clearly agitated by the fact that the analyst had used them to get info on Nokia's schedule. They stated unequivocally that the schedule for GPRS component shipments had not changed since the end of the first quarter.

FWIW....I have found three GPRS handsets that have been approved by the FCC. The T68 by Ericsson has just about everything....Bluetooth, color screen, Multimedia Messaging. If AWE/Cingular can get GPRS to work, the CDMA handset manufacturers are going to have their work cut out for them.

One more point...I agree that Nokia is crucial to Q's future success. Unfortunately, the most important elemant wont be spreading cdmaONE....it will be getting W-CDMA to work.

I know that opinion isnt popular....but it is almost impossible for me to figure out how Qualcomm is going to get above 30% earnings growth without W-CDMA rolling-out.
