tci,

re: I believe the real issue with "other businesses" is intc's conservative acq. strategy to grow same, which forbids acquiring top-notch tech. companies such as VIA or BRCM or a host of other top-tier tech. to provide real leadership in new sectors.

I agree. Intel has shown no competence in purchasing a small company, and using their resources and sales channel to build a profitable large company. Instead they seem to have purchased small companies and enabled them to lose more and more money each quarter. To the point where this measly group with $1.4 billion in revenues can challenge the profitability of what once was one of the most consistently profitable companies in the world.

Should they have bought just one larger company with their $12 billion investment? Should they have picked just one area, buying one or two small companies and focused on them, rather than the shot gun approach, dividing management attention and resources? Probably one or the other.

What I do know is that this is Barrett's baby, and at this point it is wildly unsuccessful. The shareholders and BOD ought to be holding his hand to the fire, fix it NOW or you are history.
