Gerald,

Another great post...

For me.. after spending $3000.00 on my computer... What do I use it for... So far.... Surfing, E-mail, Phone, basic word processing, basic spread sheets, news groups, realaudio, few other web based things.... These are the things that I believe most of the population would like... I think that JAVA will be able to get the job done before to long...and with cable/optics communication speeds I bet a java browser(sun/netscape) and an application suite (Corel) will get the ball rolling.

Everybody wants the self directed functionality of the Internet nobody (general pop) wants the headaches associated with administering ones own little network at home.....A java box (NC) and a nice monitor will be a huge hit with most of the people throughout the world.

Come to think of it...I can do most of what I enjoy doing using the computer via Netscape 4.0 right now......Don't know all of the technical implications of a Java OS, but... gut feeling is it won't be to far into the future before we see it.....

Roger R

ps... can anyone tell me how to get my little speaker back in the task bar... don't have the foggiest where it went.. must have got lost in the windows reload...grrrr
