Toronto, Ontario, Jul 19, 2001 (Market News Publishing via COMTEX) -- H.J. (Hank) Vander Laan appointed Chairman of the Board of

Directors

Trojan Technologies Inc. announced that Henry J. (Hank) Vander Laan will be retiring as President and Chief Executive Officer. The Company is implementing its CEO transition plan, and is actively seeking a replacement for Mr. Vander Laan, its founder and current Chief Executive Officer since 1977.

Mr Vander Laan commented, "I believe this is the right time to trigger a transition. The Company is in an excellent position to prosper under the next generation of leadership. It has been my privilege to lead this Company and to see it grow. I have been involved from its early beginnings and during its development into an international corporation. Throughout this time I had a vision to create a company that could deliver a significant positive environmental impact through chemical free disinfection of water and wastewater. The last 25 years has been an exhilarating journey for me personally. We have had, like all businesses, our ups and downs, but the Company is now well positioned for future success. I am extremely grateful for having had this opportunity to develop the business, to meet many wonderful people and to build a team of dedicated professional colleagues who have made my stay a joy each and every day".

"On behalf of shareholders, employees and customers, I want to express our appreciation to Hank for the outstanding contribution he has made as President and CEO," said Dr. Milton Haines, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Trojan Technologies. "Hank has a passion for the environment. He has been able to see his vision become a reality through Trojan, which he has been able to build into a world leader in the use of ultraviolet disinfection technology for water purification. Hank has made a significant contribution to protecting human health while preserving the environment. He has a wonderful way of working along side people from all walks of life and it is a pleasure to work with him."

At a meeting of the Board of Directors held yesterday, Mr. Vander Laan was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors and will be succeeding Dr. Haines. Dr. Haines, who has served as Chairman of the Board since 1995, will remain as an active member of the Board. The Company acknowledges the leadership and guidance provided by Dr. Haines during his tenure as Chairman and looks forward to his ongoing contribution. Mr. George Taylor will assume the position of Vice Chairman. Mr. Taylor, who joined the Board in 2000, was previously the President and Chief Executive Officer of John Labatt Limited.

The Board's Human Resources and Corporate Governance Committee, comprised of four outside directors together with Mr. Vander Laan, retained an external search consultant to assist the committee and the process is now well underway.
