From the Yahoo/HDII thread... =============== Further expansion of patient base An article in yesterday's local paper ('Heart monitor procedure may be risky, study finds' AP) indicates that 'right heart catheterization' (inserting a catheter through a neck vein into the right side of the heart in order to monitor fluid pressure, etc.) may actually increase the risk of heart attacks occurring in those patients it was meant to serve. The possibility cannot be dismissed that the elevated risk may at least partially be the result of elevated monitoring of catheterized patients leading to overly aggressive corrective treatments. Nevertheless, it would appear obvious that if similar monitoring can be achieved via a non-invasive approach, not only would the risk of heart attack (and stroke) be substantially reduced, but the initial goal of catheterization would be achieved.
