Wal-Mart Pilots CyberCare System to Monitor Chronically Ill Employees BOYNTON BEACH, Fla.--(BW HealthWire)--July 19, 2001--CyberCare, Inc. (Nasdaq:CYBR - news) today announced that Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. has agreed to participate in a pilot program utilizing the CyberCare System(TM) to monitor employees with chronic illness.
The CyberCare System, which consists of the Electronic Housecall® (EHC(TM)) family of products, the CyberCare 24 Network(TM), and the Cyber HealthManager(TM), will initially be installed for 10 Wal-Mart ``Associates'' (the term Wal-Mart uses for its employees) diagnosed with chronic conditions and selected to participate in the program, to assist in monitoring their medical condition. Wal-Mart is a self-insured employer that manages the cost of medical care for its Associates. The pilot is expected to begin in August.
Depending on the type of EHC unit installed, the CyberCare System will allow Wal-Mart Associates participating in the pilot to transmit medical data, such as blood pressure, blood oxygen, pulse, blood sugar, body temperature and/or body weight, for review by a caregiver located in a geographically remote location, as well as permit the Associate and the caregiver to communicate with each other and some using real-time videoconferencing.
There are a number of self-insured employers like Wal-Mart that manage the care delivery and associated health care costs of their employees, according to Michael E. Lemnitzer, vice president of business development for CyberCare.
``With the continuing increase in health care costs, employers must find ways to enhance cost efficiencies and clinical management of their chronically ill employees,'' Lemnitzer said. ``We are very encouraged that Wal-Mart shares our vision and we commend them for their efforts toward improving the health care benefits offered to their employees.''
