I have AT&T DSL at the studio and it's up. The central office I'm connected to is right next door. (66 feet) I saw them pull the fiber through the underground conduits when they were installing the DSLAM.....who knows whose FO it was (it's Covad's DSLAM). When I questioned the guys pulling it they said, "Para computadores." I know just enough Spanish to get myself into trouble.

I noticed a thick haze over the city (normal for the dog daze of summer) and a slight smell driving in today. I guess I lucked out that the wind seems to be sending it all south. I'm north of the downtown area and the north end of that tunnel is about 18 blocks away. I guess this gives those Hazmat guys something to do when they aren't pulling over campers with propane tanks trying to sneak through the two harbor tunnels. From the looks of the footage, it's going to be a while before they are going to be able to get a crew in there to fix the cables. They've only removed four of sixty cars and one of those is leaking hydrochloric acid. The train operators unhooked the whole enchilada and beat a path out of there once they realized that there was a fire. It's a pretty long tunnel. Since the northern terminus was right next to the Art College I endured several gawd-awful performance pieces put on inside the tunnel. There are rooms inside about a quarter mile in that the art students used to try to use just for the creepiness factor. If you turn off your flashlight while you are in there it is the blackest place you've ever been.
