Seems like Europeans (and many others) are much more chauvinistic than Americans. Probably has to do with your idea of nation-states in Europe as opposed to the US being a sanctuary for refugees from all over the world. Not that we don’t have our own extremists, but they seem to be more marginalized than in Europe (perhaps because here spouting bigotry in polite society is still taboo).

I assume you favor opening up immigration into Europe. Do you want open borders with no immigration control? Or do you just want relaxation of restrictions? If so, how far would you go? I do agree that conditions of foreign workers are often repugnant – would you favor a change in their status? BTW, does EU have uniform immigration laws or does each country have its own?
