llmarinen - I did not have malfunctioning, forgetting handsets in mind, just a handset diving through deep and multipath fading, additionally far from the basestation, badly needing that fast power control, but the downlink
with that control is just as faded.


First, this scenario (no feedback on the power control forward link) will not happen since the limiting factor on the forward link is interference, not power. The forward link can tollerate deep fades since it isn't power controlled except for cell-breathing.

Second, even if it did happen it would only imply that the fading handset would drop out, not add too much interference.
