For one day only, Ames will upgrade its traditional 10% 55 Gold
discount to 15%, applicable on all in-store merchandise,
including sale items
ROCKY HILL, Conn., Jul 19, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Ames Department
Stores, Inc. (AMES) announced today the introduction of 55 Gold(R) Bonus
Day, a one-day incentive for its approximately 2.5 million active 55 Gold
members.
The one-day event increases the regular 55 Gold member discount of 10% to
15%. 55 Gold Bonus Day is Tuesday, July 24, 2001.
Already one of the busiest shopping days of the week for Ames, the Tuesday
incentive is intended to thank Ames' senior shoppers for their loyalty.
According to Joseph R. Ettore, Ames' chairman and chief executive officer,

small way this program can communicate to Ames' senior shoppers that we
not only value their business, but look for ways to help them maximize their

Introduced on the heels of Ames' two Tax-Rebate programs, 55 Gold Bonus

55 Gold is a registered servicemark for Ames Department Stores, Inc. The
program is free to Ames customers 55 years of age and older, and offers a
10% discount on Tuesdays on all in-store merchandise, including sale items.
Seniors can also take advantage of extra shopping time, as stores open one
hour early on 55 Gold Tuesdays.
