Why gun control and registration first? Well, there is at least an intuitive relationship between guns and gun related violence. And if gun control would keep guns out of the hands of criminals more then it would keep them out of the hands of honest law abiding citizens then it would be a logical as well as (for you atleast) intuitive relationship. It's not. There is nothing in the 2nd amendment of the Constitution that conflicts with gun registration or control. If you like that reasoning I would point out that there is nothing directly in the first amendment that directly and unambiguously conflicts with requiring public speakers to get a license or having web sites or newsletters have to register and receive permission from the government. I guess you could argue requiring registration is not an infringement but if you don't allow some people to register or to get a license then it is an infringement. If registration is not so controlled then it is IMO atleast constitutionally questionable. If you want to compare the UK to the US fine, but go through the set of statistics that are related not just isolated ones. What's the overall comparison of gun-related crime in the US vs UK. Gun related crime is more common in the US but it is dropping in the US as we get more guns and growing in the UK as they put stricter and stricter restrictions on them. Also non gun related violent crime in the UK has been higher then similar crime in the US despite the much easier availability of guns here. Tim
