No more John Galt?? How can it be?? I have been away for awhile, and come back to find that one of the most brilliant and complex personalities we had at SI has been booted off forever, or so it seems.

A lot of people thought John was a total jerk, and he sure could be one!!! You definitely didn't have to agree with him!! But if you read the more sensitive things he wrote, like the time he went over to Alexa's poetry thread and acted like a complete gentleman, or if you seriously studied all the poetry he wrote, some of it really beautiful, or read him carefully enough to see the man behind the words, his vulnerabilities--the times he revealed himself, perhaps unwittingly--you would understand that he was definitely multi-faceted, a complete being even though he chose not to reveal his identity here.

The debates on this thread attracted the most intelligent people playing at SI, and the word "disseminated" in all its meanings is what I would use to describe the void that is left, with its slippery slope into censorship. Total freedom of expression is what made SI great. I can understand people not expecting profanity, etc., on the stock threads, but the coffee shop area should just have a disclaimer so that people know what to expect and go there willingly to have a wild and thought-provoking time.

I don't think SI will ever be as fresh and original as it was, and that makes me sad. I really miss John.

Terrence, please tell him Sugar said goodbye, and wishes him good luck in finding a more enlightened place to hang out.
