I don't have a book of choice. I agree with Dave Ellen! We shouldn't pay attention to contempory thinking on the subject. We should be more focused on that which brings us closer to the intent. My suggestion to Dave was that we look at the source [Constitution and amendments], the US v. Miller decisions which includes referenced historical documents. I think all are freely available.

I guess you could argue requiring registration is not an infringement but if you don't allow some people to register or to get a license then it is an infringement. If registration is not so controlled then it is IMO atleast constitutionally questionable.

I would argue that registration is consistent, even perhaps intended, by the Framers. My support for that argument is in US v. Miller.

Also non gun related violent crime in the UK has been higher then similar crime in the US despite the much easier availability of guns here.

The way I read this, "because" would have been a better choice of words than "despite". I'm not sure whether you might have mis-spoke. Is that what you intended to say?
