4:35am 07/20/01 Q2 PC shipments down 2% from Q1: report (DELL, CPQ, HWP, IBM) By Emily Church
Worldwide PC shipments in the second quarter of 2001 declined 1.9 percent from the first quarter to 30.4 million units, according to Dataquest. The drop represents the first time the worldwide PC market has seen a negative growth rate since 1986, the PC sales tracker said. Dell Computer (DELL) was the only large PC maker to see growth worldwide and in the U.S. Dell had a 13.1 percent shares of the worldwide market in the quarter, Dataquest said. Compaq (CPQ) had a 11.2 percent, followed by IBM (IBM) at 7 percent, H-P (HWP) at 6.8 percent and NEC at 4.1 percent. In Europe, initial estimates show the PC market will exhibit negative growth, Dataquest said.
