dear tiger >>>>>"let the woman choose". Is that a lunatic claim?
The choice is to end the life of ones own child. I cannot comprehend how any sane person could make that choice. Is a person so devoid of love that they can kill their own child for convienence not be a lunatic.
An interesting post I read about a love and a Covenant and life.
Yes, knowing and understanding the Jewish customs, and language is very important in understanding the bible. Whell.. after all, i was written by them was it not? Understanding the Greek and Hebrew language will make the bible so much more clearer. for instance in the Hebrew language, there are five different words for "love" but when translated into english, it is just our word love. before you can argue aginst the bible you have to know what your arguing aginst. When you read about how god made a covenant with Abraham in the bible, it helps to understand what the covenants of that time were composed of. when someone made a covenant with another, they went though a series of steps. They usually would have a celebration, they would also become "blood brothers" by slitting there hands and putting them together, also they would give eachother their sons. For instance the son of one father would go to live with the other father for a certain time period and he would raise him for that time. this form of covenant was just the ritual of that time. Now, God made a covenant with Abraham and said that if Abraham was to follow him, that though his seed would all nations be blessed. But one day god told Abraham to go and sacrafice his son I'saac. WHAT! whats up with that? Well as you read the story, Abraham was angered but chose to follow the lord because he trusted him. Abraham went ahead and was just about to sacrafice his son when god stopped him, and said (paraphrased) "stop Abraham, I can see that you love me enough that you were going to give your only son to me". Well god saw that Abraham was going to give his son, and when The Lord God gave his son Jesus Christ, he fulfilled the covenant with Abraham. God gave his only son, to where all nations could be blessed. and if you follow the generation lines of in the bible, you can see that Jesus did come from Abrahams seed, through his line. So I would like to say that to fully understand the bible you have to do your homework.
