Just because hacks can put words together in a sentence forming a question, does that mean that the question is meaningful or can have a answer?
* How and why would a service provider migrate from a revenue-generating ring to a mesh?
Is there a migration from a ring to a net? * How does protection and restoration, which is understood in rings, work in a mesh?
What was the question? Was it, is protection and restoration (not) understood in mesh, or was it, is there protection and restoration in a mesh? Assuming the latter subsumes the former, then ipso facto there is. A ring has at least a double path. If one path is broken, the other is activated. A mesh by its geometry accomplishes the same thing. As far as implementation, that's what mesh net topology has as one of its design criteria. Path re-routing occurs in ring topologies too. The Net is essentially a search for an alternative path. Redundancy can be built into any link just as it is done in a ring. Why would someone ask this question?
* What are the cost and service benefits of a Gigabit Ethernet PON over cable and DSL, or even plain old telephone service?
How can one compare apples and oranges? Well, they are both fruit, so they must be comparable. Gig E PON currently has no advantage over cable if the term "services" can be adequately narrowed to be applicable. This can't be done between current DSL and cable, so how can it be done relative to a categorically different aspect? Gig E PON can carry cable and DSL once the standards ha-ha is completed, but it isn't the most efficient way of doing things currently. The question is so innocently incoherent that one couldn't answer it without making mistakes.
Where do you find these fools?
You go to experts:
Renowned industry consultant Tom Nolle says companies building their business on Ethernet eventually becoming the service provisioning infrastructure for the metropolitan-area network will be dead in six months.
I can't believe that this guy would glibly throw out this general statement which seems coherent yet is totally meaningless. "service provision infrastructure"? Sounds good, but when you think about it, it doesn't mean anything. Does there exist a vertically integrated ISP? NO! So a business doing what no business intends to do or can do will be dead in six months. Profound. |
