Didn't Brocade concede that the 6400 was just a stopgap product? My understanding is that Brocade had to discount the 6400 heavily from its $150,000 list price because it couldn't compete with McData's 32-port fabric switch priced at $57,000. Connectrix version with EMC firmware is listed at $66,000.

Two 32-port switches provide nearly the same number of ports as the 6400 at a much cheaper price and with better performance due to much fewer interswitch links (ISL). The 6400 consists of 6 prewired 16-port switches that require 32 ports dedicated to ISL to produce 64 user ports. Two 32-port fabric switches require 6 ports, at most, dedicated to ISLs to produce 58 user ports.

Regarding FICON, this is what IBM had to say about their FICON timeline in their earnings CC:

Later this year we’ll roll out “native FICON” on Shark. This fiber-optic attachment, when used with mainframes, provides six-times faster I/O over longer distances -- increasing both speed and flexibility for customers’ storage solutions. FICON is already up and running in some customer installations....

As you know, FICON means incremental revenue opportunities for EMC, STK, McData, Inrange and Emulex. Those FICON sites are also the most likely to have the largest SANs so Brocade's completely out of that loop. As you probably know, FICON devices can only communicate with other FICON devices so they have to be hard-zoned from other Fibre Channel devices
