Rare art works and other such antiques and collectibles, in general, increased in price as the new rich, born of the bull stock market, sought to furnish there mansions. At the same time, interest in rare coins diminished and premiums shrunk.

So I agree with you that the increased premiums in rare coins may indicate people seeking to preserve wealth as the see massive losses in their stock holdings, but I would be careful lumping in other rarities. Interest at art auctions and the like has been tapering off recently...
