Russia's Slavneft to Develop Oilfield in Sudan
MOSCOW, July 20 (Reuters) - Russian-Belarus oil firm Slavneft said on Friday it had signed a joint venture deal to develop an oilfield in Sudan and was now waiting for a production sharing agreement (PSA). The field is one of four offered by the African country, but no details on reserves were given.
"Slavneft's team has been interpreting the geological and geophysical data for the ninth oil and gas block and discovered the possibility of the existence of several oilfields", Slavneft said in a statement.
The company said it had agreed to create a joint venture with the Sudanese government and to sign a PSA before the end of 2001. It will also finance the first exploration stage, scheduled to begin within the next six months.
Slavneft said earlier it had been offered data from the ninth and 11-th blocks in central Sudan, as well as the offshore 15-th block on the Red Sea.
It said it was also considering a stake in the international consortium exploring the Melut basin in southern Sudan. The consortium includes Qatar's Gulf Petroleum, China's CNPC and Sudan's state oil firm Sudapec. ____________________________
Russian-Belarusian oil firm to develop Sudanese deposits
Moscow, 20 July (Interfax) -- Russian-Belarusian oil company Slavneft and the Sudanese government are to set up a joint venture to implement oil and gas projects in Sudan, the Slavneft press service said.
This decision was reached after talks in Moscow between Slavneft management and a delegation headed by Sudanese Minister of State for Science and Technology Jamal Muhammad Husayn, who heads the investment group MASA.
According to the press service, over a two-month period Slavneft specialists studied geological and geophysical material from oil and gas block No 9 in Sudan, which the Sudanese government submitted to the company in April this year. The company's specialists reached the conclusion that it is possible to "discover several oil deposits there". It was agreed to sign a cooperation agreement in June to carry out joint exploration, development and sales of Sudanese resources, the press service said.
It is planned to sign a production sharing agreement for block No 9 in 2001 and to start work at the block before the end of the year, the press service said. |
