Al-Ra'y al-Amm (Khartoum), in Arabic, July 19

The Ministry of Energy and Mining has denied reports that Chinese working in the oilfields of Unity State in southern Sudan had been attacked by some armed militia. The secretary-general in the Ministry of Energy and Mining, Hasan Muhammad Ali, said the rumuors were denied by the oil companies, terming the matter a psychological war, with propaganda campaigns being launched by opposition circles.

Ali told Al-Ra'y al-Amm: "We categorically deny that Chinese working in oil areas were attacked." He denied that the Chinese companies held talks with the government in order to get permission to negotiate with the militia to guarantee that their establishments and employees would not be targeted.
