Hi daffodil,

You've reminded me of my first "bird in the house" story. It came down the chimney (I think I'm going to check the flues again!) and got covered with soot. I opened the door and windows and tried to guide it out with a broom, which must've upset it even more. It got so frantic that it flew into the ceiling and lay stunned on the floor for a moment, which gave me time to gently sweep him outside. I noticed later that it had made a really lovely impression in charcoal on the ceiling of the livingroom, like a Japanese ink drawing. I left it there for posterity.
