| I used to get the Times delivered to my doorstep, in suburban Annapolis, on a daily basis. However, I was not going to give up the Post, and the expense of the Times was excessive, especially as I began to tire of reading a couple of papers. I still read it on- line occasionally. However, Zoltan is essentially correct: in the New York area, most people subscribe to the Daily News, the "prole" paper, after which they subscribe to the NYPost. Newsday has been making substantial inroads among NYPost subscribers, and may, by this time, have surpassed it, which is why the paper has been in turmoil over the last few years. Times subscribers are mostly affluent Manhattanites. It is also true that, although it is a great news organization in some respects, one need not wait long to see instances of bias, and compared to the Washington Post, which has been more careful since Bradlee left, it is pretty partisan......... |
