The author described my own reaction to GWTW

I've never read GWTW. When I was a kid, I read Nancy Drew and Agatha Christie-type mysteries. I've never been much of a romantic. I don't remember when I saw the movie. I think not until it was on TV. I had a lot of trouble watching it. I was too uncomfortable with the portrayal of the black characters. And Scarlett was such a twit. I found it embarrassing all around.

(I do, however, have my bedroom and bath decorated in a linen pattern called Tara. It's rose-colored cabbage roses with hunter green leaves on a white background.)

(I've occasionally addressed female friends with the word, missy. My mother used to call me that when she was gently scolding me. I think of it as a term of endearment. It popped out once with a friend and colleague who is black and she totally startled me by asking me not to use it. She said it reminded her of GWTW. That's the only time I'd ever seen her react to anything like that so her rebuke totally wiped the expression from my reperetoire.)

BTW, have you all made a decision about our next book?

I'm not aware of any discussion of a next book. I think Rambi said she started reading Girl Interrupted and I've started The Invisible Man. I haven't gotten to a bookstore to buy TWDG yet. Yes, it would probably fit into our theme. I'm really ambivalent about our next selection. I'm even ambivalent about having a next selection. I'm feeling very Meursaultish. I'd sort of like to proceed, but OTOH don't really want the commitment of an assigned reading. I dunno.
