depression--nonsense. you're an alarmist. technically we may not even be in a recession, yet, because we may not have had two consecutive quarters of negative growth.

the real problem is if the earnings recession continues much longer and the layoffs continue, the consumer will shut down his spending. growth next year is forecast at near 3%; it could be better if the FED had more sense and stopped trying to tinker so much. the tax cut rebate should spur the consumer until the i rate cuts affect kicks in. there needs to be a capital gains tax cut and changes to the depreciation rates to spur investment. but, the Democrats won't let that happen.
