Illinois Governor Jim Edgar presided over the recent kick-off of a vehicle
demonstration project utilizing a new blend of ethanol and diesel fuel.
OxyDiesel, a blend of 15% ethanol, 80% diesel and 5% additive, will be
utilized in two Mack trucks as part of a 100,000 mile over the road test.
"This fuel has tremendous potential for reducing emissions from heavy-duty
trucks and urban transit buses, as well as increasing the demand and use of
ethanol in the transportation sector," said Illinois Department of Commerce
and Community Affairs Director Norm Sims.

The special additive was developed by Pure Energy Corporation and is
designed to keep the two fuels from separating under adverse conditions.
According to Pure Energy's Chief Science Officer Irshad Ahmed, the additive
"represents a significant breakthrough in blending two very different fuels
such as ethanol and diesel."

It is estimated the U.S. uses more than 54 billion gallons of diesel fuel
each year for transportation. "If E-15 OxyDiesel can achieve the same 10
percent nationwide market share as ethanol blended gasoline, the demand for
ethanol would increase by more than 750 million gallons annually," said
Philip Shane, Market Development Director for the Illinois Corn Growers
Association.

Partners in the OxyDiesel project include Pure Energy Corp., Illinois Corn
Growers Association, U.S. Department of Energy, Archer Daniels Midland,
Williams Energy Services, GROWMARK, Inc., Council of Great Lakes Governors,
Chicago Transit Authority and Mack Trucks, Inc.
