Huge dif between PC operating system and a service that people
can change out of in a heartbeat -- and even within it in a wink
gateway to the Internet and out of the advertising and merchandising
space controlled by AOL upon which it stakes its future.......

Gates isn't trying to catch up with AOL. If he wanted to do that
he could have used the $1b (plus the $425m for Web TV) to subsidize
for example $5 off $15.95/mo for 16 million people for a year; $7 off $12.95 for 8 million. And with $10b cash even more.

MSFT and GE don't find the online business as it is very attractive.
They are looking to leapfrog AOL and everyone else big time to
a true mass market DTV world that PC-based services can't reach.

Buffet and AOL in the same breath! ROFL

Let's go for Peter Lynch and Bernard Baruch while we're at it.
