In previous encounters with squirrels ...we were told that you have take a squirrel at least 15 miles away, if it was nesting in your house. Otherwise, it will find its way back.

I was told the same thing about raccoons when I found them living in my chimney, JC. I called the Humane Society to find a humane "exterminator," and I was really pleased that they had a list of people to call.

He first assured me that it wasn't nesting season, so that I didn't have to worry about babies. He then simply lit some newspaper in my fireplace and Mom and Dad scrambled out.

Then he put some sort of a baffle on my chimney so that they couldn't return. He assured me that even if I arranged to cart them off to some gorgeous forest 20 miles away that they would return to my neighborhood. The tradeoff was that I would have to live with letting my neighbors deal with it.

It's not a great tradeoff, but I did accept it. :(
