AMD had less than 10% of the market as recently as 3 years ago. In the second half of 1997, they had about 5% of the market. Since then, AMD has been gaining inexorably on Intel.

AMD now has somewhere between 22% and 25% of the market. And AMD has carved that market share out of Intel while increasing its profitability.

As Intel fights back to try to slow down AMD's gains, it's going to be a brutal couple of quarters for both companies - especially since the overall market seems to be taking its time coming back from the Y2K spending splurge.
