Martin, Sometimes I almost think Abelson and you are cynics.
People do the best they can with limited IQs and non-existent ethics. They can't all be as brilliant and upstanding as me and you and a Dog Named Boo. And I'd rather read Boo's used training papers than a research report from the firm you mentioned. <VBG>

On a somewhat more serious note, I am amazed that Wall Street has rediscovered bonds. Gee, could it have something to do with a 6 year low in long term rates? I saw a report last week that said "Treasuries were up 11% last year while stocks were down. Isn't it time to think about bonds?" Uh, perhaps my logic has a disconnect and I haven't been as sophisticated or successful with my investments as has Steve Martin, but wasn't LAST YEAR the time to think about bonds? <g> However, you have to love the line Martin uses in the new ads, "I am willing to talk about fixed income as long as it doesn't have anything to do with bonds."

I am just sitting here licking my chops. I think at least half of the clients out there are looking for somebody who actually loves and knows something about investing. My trainers say that's not true, that they are all looking for "relationships" and "comfort." I think they are right in many cases, but I also believe that there are still folks who want to make money.

So far on cold calls, my main problem has been that when the client starts questioning my background and qualifications, they don't believe me. I'm going to have to visit my mother to get copies of all the articles and awards and ranking lists I've been on over the decades. Mothers are good. I have a tendency to throw everything away after a while. <g>

BTW, thanks for giving me my assignment today. I have to track down a Barron's in the jungles of Hartford. Time to put on my pith helmet and hope nobody has pithed in it while I wasn't looking. <g>
