Yes, the NYTimes is a paper for serious news junkies. On the other hand, it is worse than the Washington Post about letting bias affect news content,and one must be critical in reading it. Even the Washington Post is sometimes shown up by the Washington Times in a manner that suggests not merely competition, but a willingness to pursue certain stories more vigorously than the Post, at least arguably because of bias. Anyway, I was merely saying that Zoltan had not fabricated the facts, even if the interpretation was subject to debate.
On the question of the best paper, I would say the the contest between the NYTimes and the Washington Post is close. The Wall Street Journal is a good paper, and the news side is pretty even- handed, although it is true that they are less interested in full coverage. Also, papers I have only read a little, like the London Times or Le Monde, may have some claim to distinction. |
