UMC'S Chang sees pickup in communications chips - Barron's 7/22/01 8:59 AM Source: Reuters NEW YORK, July 22 (Reuters) - The communications chip industry is recovering, although a dramatic rebound this year is not possible, said United Microelectronics Corp. Chief Executive and Vice Chairman Peter Chang, according to financial newspaper Barron's. Chang said that while there are not clear indicators of a recovery, some customers have increased their forecasts for fourth-quarter orders. He would not, however, identify which customers or which types of chips, Barron's said. United Microelectronics is the world's second largest computer chip foundry.
