Mike - Re: "And what do u think of Intel's new competition -- IBM/Cyrix?"

Allow me to clue you in - IBM/Cyrix competition IS NOT NEW! IBM has been making chips designed by Cyrix for OVER TWO YEARS - the 5x86 and 6x86 devices.

What do you think their market share is on these?

Cyrix generally describes their sales - at most, they have hit 500,000 6x86 devices per quarter in their most recent quarter.

For reference, Intel produced and sold over 20,000,000 Pentiums last quarter.

That gives Cyrix 2.5% of Intel's share. Assuming IBM made the same amount, thats 2.5% for IBM.

Most of these Cyrix parts appear in PCs with names on them that you wouldn't even recognize - CyberSmash, CTX, Spectre, etc. These are basically small, generic, price sensitive production shops that sell on a low cost basis only - with very little, if any, support structure.

Some threat, huh?
