CNN Streams To Asian Desktops On Subscription

HONG KONG, CHINA, 2001 JUL 16 (NB) -- By Adam Creed, Newsbytes.

Asian satellite Internet service provider SpeedCast Ltd said today it has arranged a deal with CNN that will allow it to stream the network's news and content to desktop PCs in Asia.

Corporations will have to subscribe to SpeedCast's satellite-based broadband service, BizTV, to receive the service.

For a fee their executives will receive CNN and CNNfn news and financial programming on their computers 24 hours a day.

BizTV will be available in Hong Kong, Singapore and Korea, SpeedCast said today. Tom Choi, CEO of SpeedCast, said the CNN deal marked a key stage in the rollout of its Internet protocol (IP)-based BizTV service.

The company revealed plans for expansion across Asia in the "near future."

The service comes direct via the AsiaSat 3S satellite, linking into a corporate local area network (LAN) and then on to individual desktop PCs.

SpeedCast is part-owned by AsiaSat (Asia Satellite Telecommunications Co. Ltd), and also counts search giant Yahoo Inc. [NASDAQ:YHOO] among its shareholders.

SpeedCast is on the Web at speedcast.com .
