How is AMD outengineering Intel? AMD is being squeezed from a margin perspective on the low and they don't have the headroom to push their architecture as far as the current (not to mention the next two) generations of the Itanium on the high end. Even assuming that AMD does have the bandwidth to compete on the high end, INTC can (and will) profitably price their Itanium chips in the sub $1,000 range within a year of initial release. Can AMD afford to move technology out the door that inexpensively?

Thanks for the kudos, btw. MSFT does have some achille's heels, but I will not ignore their strength's either. Of all of the big software houses that spout the web services mantra, MSFT is the only one shipping product (in realistic quantities). That should tell you something, especially when taking into consideration which of these companies have the largest installed base and the most market clout...
