>>>>> Only thing he does wrong is chew doorframes when we lock him up
this is a very common malady, Rich ... and even more so in horses...
the term most vets will use to describe it is "cribbing" ...
I am not sure of the exact reason for the nomemclature, but suspect it is because the habit is developed at an early age, and is similar to what a human child does in chewing on the rails of the crib .... not that it has anything to do with how to stop it .... but it is a tough habit to break.
A remedy I have found works, as I've used it with dozens of Labs in the past is to apply something to the woodwork that is repulsive to the dog. Cayenne pepper works most of the time, as does bitter lemon, or bitter apple extract. Nicotine does work some also, but it can be dangerous to the health of the animal. Horseradish has practically never failed, but the odor fades out fairly quickly, and the smell wafts through the air to the affected humans, too ..... so I don't use it indoors ..... gggggg
Maybe Jeff's dog who got to nearly a hundred pounds ate a lot of cheese ...... LOL I guess that I've only owned a couple of them who got that large, as most of my males would stop in the 75-85 range, and the females a bit less ....
Nice looking pup, and it is a shame he is not spoiled .....gggggg |
