I think that "neighborhood pressure" can be brought to bear on people, but that people who hang either swastikas or conf. flags are probably the kind that think f*** you about that kind of hint.

I bet that's covered in the neighborhood association rules around Yuppieville, though. I mean, we aren't even allowed to park dead cars in our own driveways or paint the house a weird color.

Again, your distinction is important. For some reason, people seem to confuse having the freedom to say or do something with some right to be approved of for it.

That neighbor with the swastika across the street? He can hang it in his front window, but he's not going to be invited to my 4th of July barbeque. And I bet he will be all indignant over my prejudice, too.
